The LSAT, or Law School Admission Test is a standardized test required for admission to U.S. law schools. It is organized into four scored sections—Logical Reasoning (two sections), Analytical Reasoning (one section), and Reading Comprehension (one section)—as well as one unscored experimental section and a writing sample. Logical Reasoning questions are designed to measure your ability to analyze and evaluate arguments. Its also important to be able to read and comprehend passages quickly because of the 35-minute time constraint for each section.   Analytical Reasoning The Analytical Reasoning section (commonly called Logic Games) contains four short passages (setups) followed by 5-7 multiple-choice questions apiece. Each setup has two parts: a descriptive list of variables and a list of conditions (e.g. X is bigger than Y, Y is smaller than Z, etc). The questions ask you to determine what could or must be true, based on the setups conditions. This section tests your ability to make deductions and does not require any knowledge of law. Knowing how to diagram setups correctly and understanding the meaning of words like nor and or are essential for success on this section. Reading Comprehension The Reading Comprehension section is comprised of four passages followed by 5-8 questions apiece, for a total of 26-28 multiple-choice questions. The passages cover a variety of topics within the categories of humanities, natural science, social science, and law.  One of the passages is comparative reading and contains two short texts; the other three are all single texts. The questions in this section test your ability to compare, analyze, apply claims, draw correct inferences, apply ideas and arguments in context, understand an authors attitude, and derive information a written text. To succeed, you should be able to read passages efficiently, identify main points quickly, and understand how to keep track of a passages structure. Its important to be able to read the passage and identify the main point quickly. Writing Sample The writing sample is the final section of the LSAT. It is sent to law schools to help with their admissions decisions, but it isn’t factored into your LSAT score. The writing section is comprised of a prompt that requires you to take a stance on an issue. The prompt is structured as a situation with two conditions (listed as bullet points) followed by two options for how to address the situation. You must choose one of the two options and write an essay arguing in favor of it and explaining why you made that choice. There is no right or wrong answer in this section. Rather, the essay is evaluated on the strength of your argument in support of your choice (and against the other choice). Focus on writing a well-structured essay with a clear point of view, and make sure to both support your choice and criticize the other choice. Although it is not part of your LSAT score, this section is nevertheless important, as many law schools do look at the writing sample when assessing your writing skills. Experimental Section Every LSAT includes one unscored experimental section. The purpose of this section is to measure the effectiveness of questions and determine difficulty ratings for future LSAT questions. The experimental section, made up of 24-28 multiple choice questions, can be an extra reading comprehension, logical reasoning, or analytical reasoning section. Youll be able to tell which category has an experimental section by figuring out which category has an extra section. For instance, if there are two reading comprehension sections, youll know that one of those sections is experimental, because the LSAT only has one scored reading comprehension section. Fairness Fairness means that reporters covering a story must remember there are usually two sides- and often more- to most issues and that those differing viewpoints should be given roughly equal space in any news story. Let’s say the local school board is debating whether to ban certain books from the school libraries. Many residents representing both sides of the issue are there. The reporter may have strong feelings about the subject. Nevertheless, he should interview citizens who support the ban, and those who oppose it. And when he writes his story, he should convey both arguments in a neutral language, giving both sides roughly equal space. A Reporter’s Conduct Objectivity and fairness apply not only to how a reporter writes about an issue but to how he conducts himself in public. A reporter must not only be objective and fair but also convey an image of being objective and fair. At the school board forum, the reporter may do his best to interview people from both sides of the argument. But if in the middle of the meeting, he stands up and starts spouting his own opinions on the book ban then his credibility is shattered. No one will believe he can be fair and objective once they know where he stands. The moral of the story? Keep your opinions to yourself.   A Few Caveats There are a few caveats to remember when considering objectivity and fairness. First, such rules apply to reporters covering hard news, not to the columnist writing for the op-ed page, or the movie critic working for the arts section. Second, remember that ultimately, reporters are in search of the truth. While objectivity and fairness are important, a reporter shouldn’t let them get in the way of finding the truth. Let’s say you’re a reporter covering the final days of World War II and are following the Allied forces as they liberate the concentration camps. You enter one such camp and witness hundreds of gaunt, emaciated people and piles of dead bodies. Do you, in an effort to be objective, interview an American soldier to talk about how horrific this is, then interview a Nazi official to get the other side of the story? Of course not. Clearly, this is a place where evil acts have been committed, and it’s your job as a reporter to convey that truth. In other words, use objectivity and fairness as tools to find the truth.

Freedom is being accepted

Freedom is defined as â€Å"the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint† (Dictonary. com). When you arrive to a new town you are somewhat free, although unless you are accepted by the town, you won’t feel free. In his short story, The Strangers that Came to Town, Ambrose Flack shows that true freedom is about being accepted. This is shown by the people in town mocking the Duvitches for who they are, and also by Tom and Andy poisoning the Duvitches fish they caught. The Duvitches don’t feel accepted until the dinner at the Duvitches that changes their perspective on how they are. Firstly, the town mocks the Duvitches about everything. â€Å"Before she could put a stop to it, some of their classmates scoffed at the leaf, lard and black bread sandwiches they ate for lunch, huddled in one corner of the recreation room, dressed in their boiled-out ragpickers’ clothes†(Flack 4). In this statement the Duvitch kids don’t feel freedom at school because they are not accepted due to what they eat and how they are dressed. Even the school principal is not very accepting to the Duvitch kids. â€Å"Mrs. Lovejoy, the principal, said they were bright, conscientious, pathetically eager but almost pathologically shy† (Flack 4). Everyone in town did not accept the Duvitches, this is well stated when Flack says â€Å"To the young Duvitches, like their parents, were considered antisocial† (Flack 4). The Duvitches get mocked by everyone so it is hard for them to be free because nobody in town accepts them. Secondly, when Tom and Andy poison the Duvitches fish, the Duvitches felt like they are not accepted and have no freedom. Not only had Tom and I snatched precious food from their mouths but we had brazenly advertised the contempt in which we held them† (Flack 7). Tom and Andy take away the Duvitches meals for almost a whole week that they are not able to afford, that is a way of showing them that they are not accepted. â€Å"But there was no hostility, no animosity towards us in the man an d it was obvious that he considered himself too humble to receive an apology, finding it, like most of life’s troubles, a mockery to be endured without protest† (Flack 7). This statement shows that the Duvitches never received apologies; they are shocked because they are never accepted anywhere or free from getting mocked. The Duvitches do not deserve to be treated this way and it did not help them get a good taste of freedom because they are not accepted. Thirdly, after the boys recollect all the fish they killed and gave them back to the Duvitches; it makes them, the Duvitches, feel as if they are starting to get accepted in town. Overjoyed to have neighbors in his house, he was so full of himself that I was conscious of an invisible stature in him which made him seem quite as tall as Father† (Flack 14). This is proof that Mr. Duvitch is starting to feel accepted and free in the town because he is constantly smiling and proud of himself. Also the statement when Flack says â€Å"How strange to see the boys and girls throw back their heads and laugh when Father said something that was funny, but not terribly funny. † (Flack 14) This shows that the Duvitches feel freedom; they have freedom to laugh and have fun without having to worry about being accepted. Feeling accepted gives you a reason to smile and have fun and that was produced when they got accepted. In conclusion, true freedom is about being accepted. It’s proven in the story The Strangers that Came to Town when their family is getting mocked by everyone in town, Tom and Andy poisoning the Duvitches fish and when they had dinner at the Duvitches. Freedom comes from feeling accepted by your surroundings, if you aren’t accepted by them how do you expect to be happy and feel free from negativity?

What evidence is there that Alexander may have believed that he was of divine descent? And how convincing would this evidence have appeared to one of his followers? From studying the sources of the ancient world that talk about Alexander The Great, it is clear that many of them present Alexander as being some type of heroic figure or Demi-god. However you could question whether Alexander believed this himself. Only by studying his actions and the actions of those around him can we draw any type of conclusion on this matter. This can be done through the use of sources that exist from the time of and around his death. Most of these sources have been lost or are incomplete however, so I feel that it would be best to mainly consult the sources of Arrian and Plutarch Although both of these were written a couple of hundred years after Alexander’s death they are still the most complete. Plus Arrian would seem to have many sources to consult in his writing, all from Alexander’s time. His main two sources were Ptolemy and Aristobulus, both of whom were on Alexander’s campaigns. Plutarch’s account is more a biography than a his tory since it is full of stories and anecdotes, however it contains some information that Arrian doesn’t so it is still a worthy source to consult. In this it would first be prudent to study all those events in Alexander’s life, which would seem to suggest that he did have some belief that he was of divine origin. The primary example of this would appear to be his visit to the shrine of Ammon. While in Egypt, Alexander had an urge to visit the temple since he wanted to consult the oracle there, which had a ‘reputation for infallibility’. Arrian also states that both Perseus and Heracles had consulted it at some point. And since it is clear from Arrian’s account that Alexander longed to duplicate, if not surpass, the feats of both Perseus and Heracles, so surely he must consult this oracle too. Arrian (book 3) claims that ‘the blood of both flowed’ within Alexander, which suggests that Arrian was of the opinion that Alexander did have some divine heritage since Heracles was supposedly the son of Zeus. In any case, Arrian also states that Alexander also visited the temple because he himself felt that he might be descended from Ammon in some way.
